Contributing Writers Needed

The Peacock-Harper Culinary History Committee at Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg, VA, invites members of the Culinary Historians of Chicago to write for our quarterly newsletter, The Virginia Culinary Thymes. (See spec.lib.vt.edu and culinarycollection.org for more information.) The deadline for our next issue is August 1, 2006; the theme of the newsletter is Issues and methodology in the study and teaching of culinary history.

Our Winter 2006 issue (deadline December 1, 2006) will be devoted to items about Jamestown, Virginia, and the 400th anniversary of the settling of America. We are looking for material not just on Jamestown and its problematic food situation, but also treatment of food and cooking in the history of Virginia.

We are also planning a symposium, tentatively titled "From Jamestown to Bristol: 400 Years of Cooking Up History in Virginia," slated for late April 2007, as part of the Jamestown celebrations occurring throughout the state of Virginia. More details later.

Please share this information with your members.

Thank you.
